My name is Shilah Farry
I love being a mom but I've been passionate about art my entire life. After marrying Tim, I realized I was raised rather eccentrically. We had a kiln, goldsmith tools, and were allowed to use our bedroom walls as a canvas for whatever we were inspired to create. Which for me usually involved poetry and photography. Coming from a family of artists, I never questioned if I was an "artist." I just choose to listen to that call we all have inside of us to make what I felt like at the moment.
A logo inspired by my own mother
I designed the logo for Farry Films as a cameo of a mother and child to represent both mothers and artists. It is a tribute to my own mother who started a business selling her art, handmade gold Hawaiian jewelry which she called Cameo. It also represents this heirloom, this birthright, we all were given to choose to be artists, to choose to create.
Art, I realize, is my cocoon of mothering. It is how I know how to mother my babies. It was the way my mom mothered me.
Now as a mother, I'm inspired to raise my two daughters with the belief they too can create anything they feel inspired to! Art, I realize, is my cocoon of mothering. It is how I know how to mother my babies. It was the way my mom mothered me.
So, photographing mothers and artists feels one in the same for me. As I know no love like that of a mother and yet, I find artists approach their work as if it truly were a baby.
They create, birth, and nurture their art through sacrifice and devotion, often waking in the night to continuously feed this calling as we mothers do our young.

When out and about with my two little girls (pictured above), time and again mothers stop to remind me to cherish these moments, that they grow, oh, so fast. And they do. This is the motivation behind my work and my passion.
I hold a space for you to be authentic, to make memories, and celebrate the beauty of your journey thus far.
Let me capture the little things, a touch, a lock of hair, a flower a child brings to you in wonder. Years later, these images will evoke the emotions & senses of these priceless and fleeting moments.

As my grandma used to say, Tim is the string to my balloon. Adventurous and silly enough to let me fly, yet stoic and supportive enough to keep me grounded. He is the best father to our two daughters that I could ever ask for.

I lived most of my 20's in South America. We named our firstborn Lazuli after the stone lapiz lazuli mined in the Andes. The stone was used to create the pigment ultramarine which was sought after by artists and was more expensive than gold.

My middle name is Hilina'i Ke Akua which imeans Trust in God in the Hawaiian Language. My island culture is an inspiration behind my love of nature, flowers, and color which is a theme you will see throughout my photography.
